Outdoor wedding — Plan ahead!

11 Feb

Are you planning an outdoor wedding? When planning a big event while dealing with Mother Nature, there is a lot to prepare and plan for. But if planned correctly, down to everything that could go wrong, and prepare for it… your wedding can be a huge success! After all, the weather shouldn’t be the source of your cold feet!

ETERNAL FLAME

If you are using candles for your outdoor ceremony and/or reception… cover them with glass hurricanes so the wind won’t extinguish the flame!

WALKING THE AISLE

If you are walking down a grass aisle and it had rained the night before, you should watch your step! As most women know– heels get stuck and sink in a soggy lawn so take a practice walk to prepare yourself!

SUNNY GLARE
Sunset weddings are beautiful…. But can also be painful for your guests! When planning, prepare to face your guest away from the glaring sun (or tell them to bring their sunglasses)!

LET’S EAT CAKE

A beautifully designed cake sitting in the sun? Not a good idea! To keep your cake from melting in the sun, I suggest you use a hardier icing option like fondant or marzipan instead of the traditional buttercream, which requires refrigeration!

THIRSTY?

A nice thought is to offer your guests something to drink before the ceremony to help them stay hydrated! If it is a warm outdoor wedding, offer lemonade, tea or sparkling water. A winter wedding? Have coffee, tea and cider available.

FEELING FANNY?

A great idea for a outdoor wedding is to create your program to be used as a fan! It is simple to make, people can keep cool and enjoy your ceremony in the heat! They might actually keep the program afterward!

WRAP IT UP

If your getting married in a cooler climate or on a breezy beach, encourage your bridesmaids to wear matching wraps to keep them warm. Good thing the style is not only fashionable… but easy to add to any outfit!

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE CHAIR

Don’t event think about using metal chairs for your guests! Once the sun hits them, the chairs heat up and can burn your guests backsides! Instead, get some nice garden wooden chairs or some Chiavari chairs, which tend to be weatherproof and UV protected.

FLY AWAY

Secure tiny weights to your veil to prevent it from flying all over the place during your ceremony! A great idea is to use fishing weights because or their small size…. You can spray paint them to match your attire.

NO MAYO PLEASE

Foor with mayonnaise and other perishable ingredients shouldn’t sit out in the sun for more than an hour. Play it safe and have servers pass hor d’oeuvers and keep the buffet indoors!

STOP BUGGIN’ ME

Ask your wedding venue to spray for mosquitoes and other bugs ahead f time and use citronells candles to keep the bugs away from you and your guests!

FLOWERS!

Talk to your florists about more weather-tolerant flowers to use for your day. Most flowers will wilt in the heat in no time… so be sure to keep them indoors until the very last minute!

COOL AS A CUCUMBER

Nerves will cause you to break a sweat… so on your big day make sure to upgrade your antiperspirant to one that contains Aluminum Chloride, to prevent excessive perspiration. You’ll be cool as a cucumber!

ARE YOU CHILL?

To prevent your guests from freezing, if you are getting married in a cool climate, rent some outdoor heaters to keep everyone comfortable while enjoying the evening!

A TENT

If your heart is set on an outdoor wedding, no matter what Mother Nature wants…. Consider renting a tent for your reception to weatherproof your event! Experts recommend  getting the tent with surrounding walls and eaves over the walkways!  Also plan to have umbrellas for your guests in case it does start to rain!

WHAT’S YOUR PLAN B?

You can’t control the weather. … so what is your plan b? Verify that your reception venue has an indoor space to quickly relocate to if necessary. If you don’t like this option, see advice above to weatherproof your event!
