3 mistakes to avoid when choosing your attendants

7 Feb

bridesmaidsWhen planning your wedding you will have to have to decide who you want to be part of your wedding party— who you want to stand next to you on the most important day of your life! You want to have people you love standing beside you as you and your partner vow your love to one another. Most of the time, this decision is easy… but at some points it can be daunting… and you don’t want to regret your choice! Below are 3 big mistakes you want to avoid when choosing who will stand at your side.

DON’T choose people you feel obliged to choose.

This is your wedding; this is your day! The fact that your cousin has a child who would like to be a bridesmaid isn’t your problem. And you may have been in a ton of weddings, but you don’t have to have everyone you’ve ever met stand up with you (unless you’d rather not pay for chairs!) Invite people to be your attendants who are close to you and want the very best for you. It may work best to limit the number of attendants you have rather than keep increasing your pool of talent!

DON’T choose people who don’t like your partner
.

This is horrible. Your wedding is a day just for you and your partner. The entire day represents your dedication to one another. Don’t include people who question or downplay that dedication. You, your partner and your marriage deserve the utmost respect.

DON’T choose people who aren’t invested in your happiness
.

Most of your friends will be happy and excited. But for whatever reason some people cannot step up. They don’t want to be helpful, although they don’t mind being highlighted. These may be very dear friends for many years and for many reasons. But they’re not the people to help you move from engaged to married.

Weddings bring out the best and the worst in people. Ask the people who truly want the best for you and honor your love and happiness to stand by you at your wedding ceremony. Have them be the ones to support and witness your wedding vows. The people you choose to support you on your wedding day are the people you’re asking to stand by you forever. Pick the fun, supportive ones; you’ll always be happy you did!
