VALENTINE’S DAY: THE LOVE JAR

Ok, so Valentine’s Day is THIS weekend and you haven’t gotten your sweetie something special yet? Are times a little tight in today’s economy but you still want them to know that they are your everything? I have the perfect idea for you! It is something I did for my honey for our anniversary & he loved it. He took it to work… to put on his desk. !It cost me about $15 and a lot of heart! I call it the “Love Jar”.

You can find everything you need at a local hobby shop, like Hobby Lobby, Michael’s or even at Wal-Mart! (I got everything I needed at Hobby Lobby.)

You start with a pretty jar. It doesn’t have to be glass, it can be a copper pail or a wooden box… use your imagination. I have always loved glass jars and you can find something like the one pictured for about $5-$7! You then go to the scrapbooking section of the store and pick out some heavy duty stickers that have a LOVE theme. I like the ‘bubble’ stickers that are a little more dimensional. Try and stick with the same look & feel…. But go with what you like. I would also suggest buying a pack of bubble letter stickers so you can spell things out on your “Love Jar”. Love Jar 1

You are going to decorate your jar however you want. You can also attach a tag with a note….or tie a beautiful ribbon around it. Be creative! On my Jar I put “reasons that I love you:” on one side…. And our names on the other. I filled in the remaining sides with hearts and love themed stickers.

Once your “Love Jar” is decorated the way you want…. You are going to insert slips of folded paper…. each with a different reason on why you love your significant other. These things can be inside jokes, quotes, small things, big things… as long as it is something you love about them… include it. Try to think hard on the reasons that make them the person they are… and why you love the little things. Think about what you would miss if they weren’t around. You can handwrite them… or type them, depending on how much time you have! I suggest typing them in a beautiful and colorful font. You could have them printed on a pretty pink paper and spray your perfume or cologne on it so they can “smell you” every time them open the jar!

Try to write at least 365 reasons so that your sweetie can have one to read everyday until the next Valentine’s Day… but whatever you can do it just fine! 100 will last them a while!

“I love your ham and cheese sandwiches when I’m sick.”
“I love that you never loose your temper.”

“I love that I can tell you anything.”

“I love your contagious laugh.”

“I love the way you put your hand on the small of my back when you lead me into a room.”

“I love the way your eyes twinkle when you smile at me, and no one else.”love jar

Those are just a few examples to get you started! Once you get rolling … it’s easy!

So, have fun and make it memorable.

As long as you put your time, energy and heart into it… it’ll be a Valentine’s Day home run!

Share your ideas and feedback in the comments… we would love to hear from you!

Good luck & happy Valentine’s Day!

I also made one for my Mom for Mother’s Day…
the options are endless!

LOVE this idea! I tried it for my fiancee for Valentine’s Day and he was so touched by it! I took laminated pictures of us and put them on my jar… with love words. It only cost me about $13 and so worth it! I hope he makes me one in return.

Ok, so I think this would also make a beautiful and personalized gifts for my bridesmaids. I am going to personlize them to each bridesmaids and fill them with special things from my past with them, photos… notes… etc. They can then display the jar and always remember our friendship! Thanks for the creative idea!

Heather, that sounds like a wonderful plan! As long as you make it personal and do it from the heart, your bridesmaids will cherish it! Best of luck!
