In Search of the Perfect Wedding Location

The search for the perfect location is where many of the newly engaged start their wedding planning. They set out to look at every location in the area until they find the one that makes their heart skip and their vision become a reality. Sometimes, that happens quickly and sometimes it can take quite some time (and a few emotional meltdowns) until you find one that fits your needs.

Once you find that “perfect place” it’s easy to get swept up in all of the joy and sign the contract before you really know what you’re getting. There are some important things to consider before you select the location.

  1. Decide what type of wedding you are having. Are you looking for City Chic, Country Comfort or Ballroom Elegance?  Do you want to get married in a church, outside or inside? Are you looking for a beach setting or something closer to home?
  2. Before you go out looking for the location, make a list. Write what you would like to have, what you have to have, and what you don’t want. This will make it easy to narrow down the list of venues.
  3. Know the size of your wedding. Are you inviting 30 or 300 people? It’s important to know your guest list first so you can determine if a venue will hold them comfortably.
  4.  Don’t blow your budget! Know before you go what you have to spend on a venue and what that should include. (A lot of venues will provide tables, linens, catering, some décor, ect.) If you spend a lot on a venue and then find out you must rent tables, chairs, linens….. you could run out of money.
  5. Know the rules. Venues have a list of Do’s and No-No’s. It’s so important you know this before you book.
  6. Does the venue salesperson LOVE their job? If they LOVE what they do and they LOVE their venue, your wedding will be a success. A great venue is more than pretty views, it’s about have the right TEAM on your big day to make sure that your dreams come true.

Searching for the perfect wedding venue can be a lot harder than you thought. But with a little pre-work, you can go searching with a clear idea of what you’re looking for… making it easier to identify the perfect place when you find it. It helps to take someone with you that has vision and creativity. They can help you visualize all of the possibilities that a venue has to offer.
